MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF RIJEKA

Rijeka, a port city in Croatia, made a strong first impression on me with the richness of its heritage and the diversity of its landscapes. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed a blend of architectural influences from the Austro-Hungarian period, which give the city a unique and authentic charm.

During our visit to Rijeka, we explored the Clock Tower, one of the city's most iconic landmarks. With its bright yellow facade, baroque architecture, and large, visible clock, it immediately catches the eye. Built in the 18th century, this tower once served as the main gateway to the fortified city.

After this visit, we continued our exploration by going to Glavanovo Beach. Less crowded and more secluded than other beaches in Rijeka, Glavanovo offers a peaceful environment, ideal for relaxing by the sea. Located in a small bay and surrounded by greenery, this pebble beach stands out for its clear waters and calm atmosphere.

The Trsat Castle, on the other hand, provided me with a glimpse into the medieval history of Rijeka. Located on a hill overlooking the city, it requires a bit of effort to reach, but the view of the harbor, the city rooftops, and the surrounding mountains is well worth it. The castle, with its stone walls and ancient towers, has a mysterious atmosphere and is a testament to centuries of historical events.

To reach Trsat Castle, we took the famous Petar Kružić Staircase, an essential route for any visitor wishing to explore the city. This historic staircase, consisting of 538 steps, connects the center of Rijeka to the top of the hill where the castle is located.

Finally, we also visited the Cathedral of St. Vitus (Katedrala Sv Vida), an important landmark in the city. Situated in the heart of the old town, this baroque cathedral, with its circular design, stands out for its impressive architecture and works of art, including a 13th-century crucifix. The interior is rich in frescoes and decorations, reflecting the spiritual and historical importance of Rijeka.
